Fishing is what first reeled in Dan Sewell Sr. to Horseshoe Bay — and it’s what continues to draw anglers from around the world to Sewell’s Marina today.
From the early days of hand lines, through the evolution to rods, reels, bait strips, and cut plugs, the fishing tradition here has grown alongside us. Back then, fishing derbies were the heart of the bay — including the legendary Sun Derby, which brought in hundreds of anglers and spectators every year.
